The Design 2 + Code 1 Project

welcome to 2015 part 4: the big project

[read part 1, part 2, & part 3]

I’ve always had goals for a new year, but I’ve never had a big project with specific parameters and deadlines before; one that would last the entire year.

But this year I do.

I’m calling it the design 2 + code 1 project.

Simple yet descriptive name? Check.

Here’s the deal: I’ll be designing two WordPress themes every month during the first two weeks of the month. The two themes each month must be different styles than each other, and each must meet every item on my Design Checklist.

Then I will choose one of the themes (likely based on some arbitrary thing) and develop it using a starter theme we created over at PHOENIXD.

As an even greater challenge, 6 out of the 12 developed themes must be submit-able as WordPress themes for public release! I’ll be learning a lot this year, and I’ll be making sure I completely understand how something works before I implement it.

Though my primary reason for the project is to grow (hehe, see what I did there?) as a designer and developer, I may end up offering a few of the these for sale. I’ve never done something like that before, so it’s an exciting thought.

As well, I’ll be sharing all of my designs on this blog, along with other #design2code1 insiders! In fact, I’ve been working on the first one this week and I’ll be sharing it with you tomorrow! I am so excited about this project and that I’ll talking more about design + development on the blog.

I hope you’ll be cheering me on throughout the year :)
